Plain English

What this page does

This is the member sign-in page. There is no Empire password to create or lose: you sign in with the same messaging account that received your invitation, and the Empire matches that account against its approved invitation list. Nothing else is kept from the sign-in beyond a pseudonymous identifier, the session lasts seven days, and the cookie is secure and first-party. If your account is not on the invitation list, sign-in will not succeed no matter how many times it is tried — the application page is the route in.

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers

How do I sign in to The ShadyBot Empire?

Use the sign-in button on this page and authorise with the same messaging account that received your invitation. You will be returned to whichever page you originally asked for. If the popup does not respond, there is a link on the page to continue in the same tab instead. Activation also requires confirming you are 21 or older and have accepted the beta agreement.

Why is there no password?

Because a password the Empire stores is a password the Empire can leak. Sign-in instead proves you control the messaging account the invitation was sent to, which is the same fact a password would have stood in for. The Empire keeps only a pseudonymous identifier for that account, so there is no password database to breach.

What do you see about my account when I sign in?

A pseudonymous identifier for your messaging account, and nothing else from the sign-in itself. That identifier is what links you to your invitation, your tier and your saved work. The privacy page sets out the full list of what is stored; the short version is that sign-in is an identity check, not a data collection step.

How long does a session last?

Seven days, in a secure first-party cookie, after which you sign in again the same way. Member pages are served only to a signed-in session: a signed-out visitor requesting one is redirected here, and the member data behind those pages returns an authorisation error rather than an empty page.

I have an invitation but sign-in fails. What now?

Check that you are using the exact account the invitation was sent to, since sign-in succeeds only for accounts on the approved list. If the popup is blocked, use the same-tab link on this page. If it still fails, email emperor@theshadybotempire.com with the account handle you are trying and the time you tried.

Invitation required. Sign-in succeeds only for accounts on the approved invitation list, and creates a seven-day session in a secure first-party cookie.
